Pronouns: she/her/hers
“Another world is not only possible, she is on her way. On a quiet day, I can hear her breathing.” – Arundhati Roy
A Champaign native, Jenny graduated from the University of Illinois with a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work. Soon after, she became a healthcare advocate with Champaign County Health Care Consumers, directly supporting clients in navigating healthcare systems and accessing affordable healthcare in the Champaign-Urbana area. She then began working as Program Director of Freedom Project in Seattle, WA, a nonprofit that hosts workshops within several prisons in Washington state centering on conflict resolution, social-emotional skills, and mindfulness meditation, co-facilitated by a team of mentors on the inside.
Through twists and turns, Jenny returned to her beloved Urbana and began her work at Cunningham Township managing the Rental Assistance Program, which financially supports those behind on rent as a form of homelessness prevention. She is now a Housing Case Manager, working with those experiencing homelessness in their goals toward secure housing. Jenny has pursued extensive training and study on the topics of trauma healing, Nonviolent Communication, conflict resolution, restorative justice, and somatic therapies. You may find her cuddling with her cat, cooking a big vat of soup, or practicing her Spanish comprehension by watching dubbings of her favorite Netflix shows.
