As of 2023, Source of income discrimination is protected class to the Illinois Human Rights Act to decrease housing discrimination which often targets low-income minority groups who use legal forms of alternative income such as housing vouchers (Section 8), rental assistance, and other forms of income.The purpose of this report is to examine what groups are facing this discrimination and what local community organizations do to support and combat housing discrimination and enforce the law.

In Fall 2020, over 63% of Urbana voters said “yes” to support a tax levy increase for the poor. The increase represents about $3 more per month per household and will sustain Township’s core programs such as General Assistance, Rental Assistance, and services for homeless families in Urbana, while leveraging local funds with state and federal funds to continue to work towards our goal of ending homelessness in Urbana.
